Chiang Mai: A Fairytale Stay

Chiang Mai was the second stop on my Thailand tour and probably my favorite. I’m usually a beach type of girl, but this mountainous little city really stuck with me. Thinking back now, it probably had a lot to do with the regional spicy food, the stunning Hmong village vistas, and the happy smiling people. It didn’t hurt that we had the cutest boutique hotel to stay in.

Once Upon A Time

Located on a quiet corner, right off the main road of Chiang Mai’s Old City sits Once Upon A Time Boutique Hotel. It’s a wood-slated boutique hotel with as much authentic Thai architecture and charm as you can imagine. As soon as I stepped inside the front doors and felt transported into an architecture magazine. Beautiful tiled floors and walls, light streaming through open shutters and grained wooden tables line the small lobby.

The two sweetest girls running the hotel greet us with a smile at the front desk of the new six-room hotel. We were led up the wooden stairs lined with vintage photographs to a glass door that separated the bedrooms. We chose the Deluxe Double Room option that included a king sized bed located on the second floor loft in a loft, a futon mat in the living area with a TV and a complimentary breakfast.

The tables in the lobby area have neatly labeled condiment holders, a cart holding juices and cups in the cutest little glass containers. I looked around thinking to myself, “I really need to take decorating tips from these people”.

This place oozed authentic charm and made you feel you’re staying in a high-end Thai home. I chose the fresh fruit option for breakfast and was so pleasantly surprised. The hotel manager brought a giant bowl of fresh fruits like kiwi, melons and berries covered in yogurt. She also brought out a glass of buttery croutons that I couldn’t stop eating.

We only stayed three nights at Once Upon A Time but I would recommend to anyone passing through Chiang Mai. Even just to take pictures of the beautiful, detailed lobby.

Thank you Claire! I totally recommend Chiang Mai. It’s not as hot as Bangkok and the islands plus its surrounded by beautiful mountains. The food is more spicy than typical Thai, which is probably why I like it haha

Such beautiful photographs! I haven’t been to Thailand but would love to go! The hotel looks very homely, not pretentious, just very welcoming but also modern. I love it! Looks like you had a fab time 🙂
